I’m inspired by a number of people to talk about walking and cycling in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. Like many parts of London, and many parts of the country, Richmond should be perfect for the majority of people to choose to walk or cycle as their default mode of transport, rather than to drive.
But it isn’t. Richmond is plagued with poor cycling infrastructure, and a desperation on the part of the council to be ‘fair’ to motorists and not to be seen perpetuating the ‘war on the motorist’.
This blog is about making Richmond (and London) a better place for all of its residents and visitors, by making it a better place to walk and to cycle. It’s not (generally) about lycra, thousand pound bikes, or high visibility clothing: this blog believes cycling should be a comfortable, simple, obvious choice for people.
