This report cost what? Who cares what it said?

We wrapped the Cycling Liaison Group meeting with the announcement that the council has £12,000 to spend on cycle parking.

Now the council actually has a lengthy report looking at cycle parking in the centre of Richmond, but it seems that this isn’t an area where the money will be spent, because we were all invited to submit suggestions as to where the new parking could be located.

Regrettably, Richmond has no idea (based on this FoIA request) what cycle parking it actually has at the moment, so it’d probably be optimistic to hope that we get something more than a few token racks stuck somewhere. I don’t think that they’ll be replacing any of the random parking in the centre of town like this, for example:

(Google Maps view here.)

If you do have any ideas, though, send them on to the Council’s cycling champion, Cllr Katherine Harborne

  1. Maybe they should add the cycle parking to OpenStreetMap, then take a a look at this heat map of cycle parking: http://www.spokeseastkent.org.uk/maps/cycle-parking-heat-map/?zoom=13&lat=51.45978&lon=-0.30539&layers=BT

The OpenCycleMap shows where there is cycle parking.
