Richmond: let’s not talk about cycling, please

Richmond’s local cycling campaign are distressed to have had an invitation to the council’s Transport Management Liaison Group withdrawn. However, a little bit of digging on the council website suggests that, if they’d been invited to the ‘Transport Consultative Group‘ they probably would have been wasting their time, since it doesn’t seem to have met in over a year.

They might have better luck with the “Environment, Sustainability and Community Overview and Scrutiny Committee”, but the minutes of the last meeting would suggest that it’s another talking shop on the subject of walking and cycling. After a tantalising discussion (item 54) which included TfL’s love of smoothing traffic flow, they resolved to leave any transport discussion of interest to cyclists or pedestrians to the Local Improvement Plan.
